New England Art News April 11
Over a dozen jobs. 18 calls for art with $25k+ in prizes. Residencies in Providence and on Rose Island. A $3k mural. $14k in scholarships. Events around the region. Plus, opportunities from RISCA!
Happy Friday!
I hope that you’re enjoying the blue skies and daffodils as much as I am. Thanks to all who came out last week for my latest Drinks with Artists event. It was a fantastic evening (the best attendance yet!) with tons of creatives mingling throughout the night. These gatherings continue to grow and so many special people attend.

In addition to this event, RISD mounted their impressive Unbound Art Book Fair last Saturday. Congrats to all my talented friends who were exhibiting. Also last week, my colleague Jen Thum brought a group of remarkable graduate students from Harvard Art Museums to the gallery, I hosted a major Hollywood director for a tour, and a group of travel representatives from all over Europe visited too.
Suffice to say, I have gratitude for our art community and I feel so fortunate to be immersed in it alongside all of you. - Michael
Meet Pastelist Jeanne Tangney
This week for my Inside Art column on golocalprov.com, I profiled Newport pastelist Jeanne Tangney. An active exhibitor and teacher, Tangney is the subject of a solo show at Hammetts Hotel through June 1 in collaboration with Jessica Hagen.
Discover Rose Island Residency
I wrote an article for my new blog newenglandartnews.com this week about the Rose Island residency. Open to Rhode Island artists, this opportunity allows for a stay on a picturesque island in Narragansett Bay this September. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 13.
