Editor’s Note: Creating Connections and Community in Providence
Last week’s Millenial/Gen Z art meetup in Providence was a success, with 20+ artists and art professionals gathering throughout an evening for informal introductions and conversations. It was really wonderful to see artists I like get to know one another, too. Experiences like this remind me of the crucial importance of gathering offline to meet face-to-face and talk about art, brainstorm, and encourage one another. I’m hoping to organize something again soon, but in the meantime if you’re in the area and want to grab coffee or a drink, please don’t be shy. And if you’re looking for someone to join in on an art opening or other event, let me know. You can connect with me via email or on Instagram. - Michael Rose

In addition to being a longtime professor at Community College of Rhode Island, she’s also taught and storied places like Haystack and Penland. I wrote about her current solo exhibition at Wheeler School for my weekly “Inside Art” column this week.

PAAM’s Adopt an Artwork Initiative
Local art history is something worthy of supporting and at the storied Provincetown Art Association and Museum at the tip of Cape Cod, they have come up with an inventive way to promote conservation of works from their permanent collection. Through their Adopt an Artwork initiative, donors can select an artwork to sponsor, allowing the museum to reframe, clean, and repair works that tell the story of the art colony in Provincetown throughout the years. I think this is such a smart way to encourage patronage and wish more organizations would consider this model: a menu of options with exact “prices” that directly show what monetary support can do.
