Artist of the Week: Painter and Professor Eric Telfort

This week for GoLocalProv, I wrote a profile of Eric Telfort. Formerly the Department Head of Illustration at RISD, Eric is a great painter with a solo show on view for just one more day thru June 28 at AS220. His work is deeply personal and autobiographical.
Figure Drawing Dispatch from Lost Bag

Last week my friend artist Tom D’Amore invited me to figure drawing at Lost Bag Space in Providence. The model was great and fellow artists were kind. I will spare you my rusty attempts at capturing our subject, but you can see Tom’s characteristic drawing above (that’s me at the farrr left). Figure drawing is $10, Monday evenings.
News: DESIGNxRI Taps Islay Taylor as New ED
DESIGNxRI, a great non-profit, has named Islay Taylor as its new Executive Director. Islay earned an MFA in Metal and Jewelry at RISD and was previously Associate Director at The Steelyard. Congrats Islay!

Last Chance for Traditional Arts Grant in New Hampshire
Today (Friday, June 27) is the deadline for Folklife and Traditional Arts Grants in New Hampshire. This funding aims to preserve traditional art forms. Artists can request $1,000 - $8,000.
Public Art Opportunities in Rhode Island and Maine
Providence ACT is seeking proposals for new murals at Young Woods Elementary. Three semifinalists will each receive $500. Total project budget is $12,500. Inquire by July 1.
RISCA has two opportunities with deadlines approaching. The first is for a $65,000 exterior mural at Eleanor Slater Hospital. The second call is for a comprehensive interior artwork plan with a budget of $160,000. Both have a deadline of July 11.
The Maine Art Commission has two opportunities listed via its Percent for Art program. One project has a $127k+ budget (Deadline July 14). The second has a $12k+ budget (Deadline July 25).
Residency at Boston Center for the Arts
BCA is seeking artists to activate its historic Cyclorama. Artists will then collaborate with two filmmakers, who will be selected via a separate call. Looks like an interesting opportunity to make something new! Deadline is July 28.
Lead a Local Art Space
The Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, a volunteer-run space with a sizable gallery, is seeking a volunteer President in the fall. Required attendance at monthly Zoom meetings, four major shows, and more. Email Victoria at volunteerpawtucketartsc@gmail.com including a resume to express interest.
