Happy Friday!
I want to start with a quick thanks to you for being part of this community. New England Art News now boasts over 1,200 subscribers throughout the region and beyond, including readers from 27 states. These missives receive over 10,000 monthly views on average. Your enthusiastic encouragement is meaningful and getting to know many of you through this project has been enriching.
In this fraught era of bald faced attacks on the arts, circulating resources and being in solidarity with one another feels like a worthy, even if small, act of protest. Please consider sharing this free resource with artists seeking assets and uplift. - Michael

Meet Two Ceramists Featured at Bristol Art Museum
I wrote two articles about ceramists this week. For New England Art News, I profiled recent UMass Dartmouth MFA grad, Rachel Mulcahy. She is a remarkable emerging artist who creates sensitive and multilayered installations of tiles. They’re gorgeous!
For GoLocalProv, I wrote about Jillian Barber. A 1968 RISD alum, she is one of the most prolific and lauded ceramic artists in Rhode Island. Both Rachel and Jillian are featured right now in Bull in the China Shop at Bristol Art Museum.

News: New Hampshire Moves to Defund its Arts Council
New Hampshire’s State Council on the Arts is likely to be effectively abolished if the current budget at the state legislature goes through. House and Senate leaders have advanced plans to remove the agency’s already measly budget. An all volunteer council would supposedly carry out some of the same duties, albeit deprived of any funding to meaningfully support artists. This is a major blow and shows an utter lack of vision on the part of New Hampshire politicians.
Governor’s Art Awards in New Hampshire
New Hampshire Arts Council is seeking nominations for honorary awards to highlight individuals making an impact on the state’s cultural scene. Obviously ironic given the aforementioned move to axe funding for artists… Deadline May 30.
Collective Futures Fund in Boston

Model Behavior
Last week I was invited to sit for the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative’s portrait drawing group. It was a unique experience and one that gave me a renewed appreciation for the hard working portrait and figure models in our community. Thanks to this kind group for welcoming me - they meet every Wednesday from 1-4pm if you want to join.
