Studio Visit with Painter and Professor Matthew Napoli
A Texan transplant to the East Coast, Matthew Napoli is an accomplished painter, professor, and curator exploring symbolism. I profiled Matthew for my weekly “Inside Art” column on GoLocalProv.com this week. Read my piece about him and consider sharing his work with your network.
Please consider sharing the article from GoLocalProv’s page to pass this story along. It’s a great (and free) way to promote arts journalism and share artists’ stories.
Editor’s Note: Art Social Media and Art Socializing
I was giving a professional development talk for artists recently and mentioned something I thought might be useful to share here too. Social media is a tool for socializing and it is not an endgame in itself. For artists and those interested in art, I hope you’ll consider using things like Instagram to connect with real people in real life: to go to studio visits, exhibitions, talks, etc. Over the past couple of week, I’ve gotten coffee and drinks with a half dozen art people I met via Instagram. Artists are such naturally introverted people in some ways, but the social aspect of what we all do is crucial to building community together, to sharing resources, to brainstorming. So, I hope that before the end of the year you might set a goal for yourself to connect in the world with an artist or curator or other cultural purveyor you admire. And if you want to grab a coffee or a cocktail in Providence, I am always available. - Michael Rose

Organization to Support: FRMoCA
A reader asked me what kind of ways I thought we should be working together in the current moment and I mentioned the need for those who are able to monetarily support local cultural organizations, so in upcoming issues I’m going to highlight groups doing good work who deserve your support. First up is Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art (FRMoCA).
Founded in 2020, the Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art is already a staple in the region and brings compelling contemporary work to Southeastern Massachusetts. Run by practicing artists Harry Gould Harvey IV and Brittni Ann Harvey, the space is not only an exhibition venue but is also the backdrop for arts engagement programs in the local community, particularly with area youth. You can support the work of FRMoCA with a donation in any amount.
