This week for GoLocalProv, I visited the studio of Providence sculptor Jenna Clouse. Highly interested in process, Jenna casts hard tools to create soft sculptures. The tension in her work is exciting. You can read about Jenna by clicking here.
Please consider sharing the article from GoLocalProv’s page to pass this story along. It’s a great way to support an artist like Jenna and help others discover her work.
Atlantic Mills Studios Headed for Development?
Atlantic Mills in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood is one of the last affordable studio buildings in town. Spaces like this fueled the “renaissance” that the city often brags about. Today, most of these DIY venues have been demolished or converted to residential use and Atlantic Mills is about to be sold to a New York developer. Providence Preservation Society has a great blog post with current events at this important landmark. The potential loss of this building, or the pricing-out of its artist renters under new management, should worry all Rhode Islanders.
